Base theme

The theme that your theme is extending from. Describes a theme like Classy that is intended to be extended and not just used as-is. Also often referred to as a parent theme.

Subtheme

A theme that extends another theme, inheriting all components of the theme being extended. Also often referred to as a child theme.
